Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this tub and the DCT-B-042-PLPC-34 polymer barrel?
Both are 42" diameter Pacific cedar barrel cold plunges. The difference is the interior material: this model (SSPC) uses a 304-grade stainless steel interior; the PLPC uses a high-density polymer interior. Stainless steel is more durable, non-porous, and holds temperature slightly better. Polymer is lighter (220 lbs vs 255 lbs) and comes in color options (grey or green). Both are chiller-compatible. Choose stainless for longevity and premium feel; polymer for easier handling and a lower price.
Can I use this tub as an ice bath without a chiller?
Yes. Fill with water and ice to your target temperature, then use the included insulated cover to maintain cold between sessions. Many users start without a chiller and add the DCT Premier Edition chiller once they want automated, maintenance-free temperature control. The hose connections are pre-installed and ready for chiller integration at any time.
What chiller is compatible with this tub?
The DCT-B-042-SSPC-34 is designed to integrate with the DCT-SV-08DO3-34 Premier Cold Plunge Chiller, sold separately. The chiller connects directly to the pre-installed inlet and outlet valves. No modification to the tub is required.
Can this barrel be used outdoors year-round?
Yes. The 304 stainless steel interior and Pacific cedar exterior are both weather-resistant and appropriate for outdoor installation. In freezing climates, do not leave the tub filled with standing water when temperatures drop below 32°F unless the chiller is running with freeze protection enabled. Draining the tub during extended freezing periods is the safest approach without a chiller.
What posture does the barrel format require?
The barrel format is designed for upright seated immersion — you sit inside with water at chest level, legs submerged. This provides full lower-body immersion in a compact footprint. It is a different posture from the reclined position possible in the rectangular DCT-S-050-NS-34 tub. Most users find the upright seated position comfortable for typical session durations.
How is the tub delivered and installed?
The tub ships via LTL freight or ground carrier on a pallet and is delivered curbside. At 255 lbs empty, positioning the barrel requires two people. No electrical connection is required for the tub itself. Access to a drain or a means to pump out the water for changes is needed. A chiller requires a nearby standard 120V GFCI outlet if one is added.
What does the warranty cover?
The tub carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty on materials and workmanship. Contact Aurevian Wellness for warranty support.
